Icon (from Greek - "image") is a religious painting in the tradition of Eastern Christianity. The  word "icon" is used in the New Testament and means "portrait".
Icons reproduce images from the Orthodox religion - personalities and events related to Christian living. The icon should be painted with natural colors and made of hard and durable material - usually board, but not of brittle material. The icon is treated as a sacred object of reverence and worship or simply applied as an ornament - it depends on the principles of specific culture, religion and time.
The icon is the testimony of the Church that God has come into the world, incarnated and mated with the humans. Nowadays, thanks to reproductions of famous icons, anyone can address God in your own home.
